Each piece is handcrafted using intricately hand carved wooden blocks and is an original work of art distinguished by the work of the artisan, the particular lot of dye, and even varying weather conditions. Tonal variations are inherent to the block printing process and enhance the individuality, character and uniqueness of each creation.
About Mosaique Bleue:The Mosaique Bleue collection is inspired by Moroccan ‘Zellige’: exquisite terracotta tile work that has an ancient tradition of craftsmanship. Zellige, in existence since the 10th century, requires exceptional skill, that has been distilled through generations, to create extravagant, geometric, mosaic studded scapes that stunningly drape palaces, mosques and residences, infusing Moroccan architecture with a sublime exoticness. We thought it would be intriguing to capture an intoxicating dollop of Morocco’s allure by interpreting this historically, traditionally and culturally drenched craft form using fabric as a canvas. We employ hand block printing, another highly skilled age old craft of textile ornamentation from an entirely different part of the world, India, to bring you the Mosaique Bleue collection, our tribute to the fascinating craft of Zellige.
